AVCO
is hoping to provide a useful gateway to technical aid for voluntary
and community groups in the borough of Waltham Forest.
We
are working with Council departments to try and co-ordinate a system
of help for groups in looking for properties, finding out about planning
requirements and looking at what is required to make buildings "fit
for purpose" in the first place and then properly maintained
thereafter. You can already get advice on access for people with disabilities
from the Council's access officer, Ruth Goundry.
Another
route is to look for architectural and surveying firms that offer
"pro bono" help to registered charities. There are also
organisations like Planning Aid for London and Community Matters that
can often help groups with planning and premises issues.
